One of the most unexpected and memorable moments in my business happened when Thryv sent a film crew to my home bakery to film a success story about Artful Cakery by Julie.
And the best part? The filming happened on my birthday!
It is not every day that your kitchen is filled with cameras, lights, microphones, and a full production crew, so it definitely made for a birthday I will never forget.
Filming a Behind-the-Scenes Look at My Bakery
The purpose of the video was to share the story of how using Thryv Business Center, the CRM platform I use to organize my business, helped Artful Cakery by Julie grow and operate more efficiently.
To capture the story, the production team filmed inside my home bakery in Flowery Branch, Georgia, where most of my cake decorating work happens.
For several hours, cameras recorded the process of baking and decorating while also capturing interviews about my journey as a cake designer and small business owner.
A Long Day of Filming
What started as a fun idea quickly turned into a full production day.
Between setting up equipment, adjusting lighting, filming different angles, and recording interviews, the filming lasted more than six and a half hours.
At one point I quickly pulled together a cake so the crew could capture footage of the decorating process. It was a little surreal having cameras pointed at me while piping frosting and talking about running a cake business.
But the experience was also exciting and something I will always remember.
Growing Artful Cakery by Julie
The video highlights the growth of Artful Cakery by Julie, a custom cake studio based in Flowery Branch, Georgia, serving weddings and special events throughout Atlanta and North Georgia.
Over the years the business has grown from baking cakes for friends and family to designing cakes for weddings, milestone celebrations, and special events.

The Importance of Organization in a Creative Business
While the artistic side of cake decorating is what most people see, there is also a significant amount of organization involved in running a small business.
From consultations and contracts to payments and communication with clients, systems like Thryv help keep everything organized behind the scenes.
Having those tools in place allows me to focus more time on the creative side of cake design while still providing great service to clients.
