Artful Cakery by Julie-

A little about our bakery…

Artful Cakery by Julie is a small, local, family owned cottage bakery located in Flowery Branch, Georgia. It was originally opened in 2013 by Julie McDaniel. The business quickly grew from word of mouth and social media. Julie has designed, baked, and decorated hundreds of cakes and other desserts over the past 10 years. Artful Cakery by Julie is focused on customer satisfaction through designing custom wedding and groom’s cakes to make dreams come true. The bakery is available for in person consultations with cake tastings as well as online and phone meetings. The bakery is easily accessible with quick responses via phone, email, and social media. Cakes are delivered to venues all over North Georgia and are set up on site to make sure they are in perfect condition for your special day. We add flowers, cake toppers, and other decorations when we deliver. We also make cakes for other occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, baby showers, bridal showers, holidays, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and other special occasions. Some other options include cupcakes, muffins, cake pops, truffles, mini pies, crispy rice treats, macarons, decorated sugar cookies, and other dessert table items.

Julie McDaniel-

A message from our owner…

I have been married to my husband almost 25 years. I have a 24-year-old son, 22-year-old daughter, and an 18-year-old son. I grew up on a family farm in South Georgia surrounded by many women who were excellent cooks. From a young age you could find me standing on a stool so I could see over the counter top “helping” my grandmas make meals for our family and treats for special occasions. When I went away to college, my roommates were from all over the country so they were not near family for birthdays and I decided to bake cakes for them. I got married and we had our first child in 1998 and I began baking and decorating cakes for my children and other family and friend birthdays. The more parties I made cakes for, the more friends and family asked if I could make and decorate cakes for their family members. I received more and more requests for custom cakes for many events like birthdays, baby showers, holidays, and more. Over the years, the cakes got more and more creative and I began pushing the envelope. In 2009, I made my first wedding cake for a friend’s daughter. Then I had another request for a wedding cake. In 2013 I was turning away orders from strangers until I decided to take the leap and make my business official. I had all my inspections and got my Cottage Food License from the Georgia Department of Agriculture, my sales tax license, and my business license. After several years of decorating, I suffered an injury and had to have surgery to repair a labrum tear in my shoulder. After a long rehab, I received a call from a local grocery store looking for a cake decorator. I decided to give it a shot and quickly advanced to assistant bakery manager and within less than 3 years I was promoted to bakery manager. I grew a lot as a manager and overall bakery worker. In April of 2022 I suffered from multiple health issues and decided it was in the best interest of myself and my family to step away from my full-time job. After some time of rest and recovery I decided to go back to what I love, creating unique cakes that are works of art! The more creative and elaborate a cake and the bigger the challenge, the more I enjoy it!
